Weerama History

Weerama, meaning "TO PLAY" has developed from a very colourful past. In 1978 the Keep Australia Beautiful Committee merged with Council to form a Festival Committee. The committee was compiled by various interested groups and persons from within the then Werribee Shire. This group developed into the Weerama Coordinating Committee, now known as the Weerama Festival Committee Incorporated.

Even though the Weerama Festival has changed considerably over the years, the procession always had a good turnout of float entrants. The Council has always financially supported the Weerama Festival, however the "Keep Australia Beautiful" organisation is considered to be the first major sponsor of the Weerama Festival, while the "Life Be In It" organisation became the second major sponsor in later years.

The Weerama Festival Committee is committed to continually improve the festival, and is always on the lookout for new ideas, suggestions and enthusiastic committee members.
