Excerpts from the Werribee Banner

11th November 2009

Wyndham's annual Weerama Festival has undergone the biggest revamp in its 31 year history, with next year's event to be based at the Werribee racecourse. To be held on the weekend of March 13 and 14, it will also include a pool party at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre and Youth Skate Festival at Presidents Park on "Super Saturday". A children's picnic kicks off the line-up at the racecourse followed by entertainment from the Riff Raff Theatre for Children, Victoria Police's Code One rock band and a Youth Stage between 3-7pm. Geelong singer Tim McCallum will perform at the afternoon melodies concert at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. The evening program includes the RAAF Force 10 band, a big name music act and the fireworks.
On Sunday there will be multicultural acts, singers, dancers and comedians, interactive displays by the city's emergency services and tourism operators and a Youth Sports Expo. Other activities will include a craft market, local and international food and wine tastings, roving street theatre, community and commercial displays, a children's zone and a wide selection of rides and amusements.
Festival Director, Wayne Carson said "There will be more room for exhibitors and you'll be able to sit down and have a picnic on the lawns. If it gets hot, you can move undercover and enjoy it all from the grandstands". Mr Carson said the committee was confident the new format would be a success. The move to the racecourse received 92% support from more than 600 people surveyed at last month's Wyndham Tourist Expo.
